School bans children singing KPop Demon Hunters songs over ‘Christian ethos’ fears

A primary school has banned students from singing songs from the popular children’s musical movie KPop Demon Hunters, saying it could make Christians feel “extremely uncomfortable”.

Lilliputian Church of England School in Poole, Dorset, sent a letter to parents last week asking them to tell their children not to sing at school because of “Christian morality”.

Lloyd Allington, deputy head of Lilliput Church of England Infant School, wrote: “While we fully respect your right to make choices about the content your child engages with at home, we also want to be mindful of the diversity of beliefs within our school community.

“For some Christians, mentioning demons can be deeply disturbing because it associates them with spiritual forces that are opposed to God and goodness.

“From their perspective, even the fictional or gaming use of this language may conflict with their beliefs, which emphasize rejecting evil rather than engaging with it, even in entertainment.

“This is a valuable opportunity to explore the diversity of faith within our community and to consider how we can support believers who find these themes challenging – especially as we are a faith school chosen by many parents for our commitment to developing and sustaining Christian ethics.”

In the letter, which has been updated following feedback from parents, Mr Allington added: “Thank you to the parents who shared their thoughts about KPop Demon Hunters and the positive themes you see in its music.

“We completely agree that values such as teamwork, courage and kindness are important for children, and it is clear from your feedback that many of you feel that songs like Golden help your children learn these themes.

“However, we want to reassure you that we are not asking parents to tell their children that it is wrong to enjoy movies or songs if they align with your own views and beliefs, and that will not be the message we share. school any.

“Our task will be to help children understand that some of their peers may have different views and to explore how we can respect and support these peers in maintaining their beliefs.”
