Schools will remain open today, says education minister
On the eve of today’s teacher strike, the Minister of Education John-Paul Lanbroek announced that schools would be open and said that parents have no expectation to keep their children at home.
Tens of thousands of public schools in Queensland will be out of work today for the biggest rallies and walks that started at the Brisbane Congress Center on South Bank this morning.

Speaking with Gary Hardgraves and 4BC Drive, the Minister said that the first reconciliation negotiations at the Industrial Relations Commission were held yesterday, but the planned industrial action would continue.
While the Queensland Teachers’ Association told parents to keep their children at home, the Langbroek department said that the department was working with the managers to make arrangements to keep schools open.
“The union may ask people to do everything they want, but the minister said that the schools will still be open and we are working with our managers to make sure that the students are controlled,” he said.
“There are some parents that they will be very difficult when they need to keep their children at home, and that’s why we say to them that we do not expect you to do this, and that is why we will provide this control in our schools.”
