Scotland coach Steve Clarke ‘hasn’t had new contract offer’ from employers

Clarke visited potential sites across the United States before settling on Charlotte and Fort Lauderdale as his team’s two home bases this summer.

Scotland will face Haiti (June 14) and Morocco (June 19) in Massachusetts and complete Group C against Brazil in Miami (June 24).

“I always wanted to go to the World Cup with my country, so now I’ve done it,” said the former Chelsea and St Mirren defender, who played six times for Scotland.

Asked if the ball was now in the SFA’s court, Clarke happily agreed.

“Yes, I think so,” he said. “I had a very brief conversation with Ian [Maxwell, SFA chief executive] It’s about what they want to do moving forward.

“But I think I’m just waiting for the Scottish FA to come to me and say, ‘Look, this is what we see as the future’ and if I can be part of that then we can have that discussion.”

And Clarke admits his own opinion has changed slightly, having previously said he only had a 25 per cent chance of staying. He says it’s more “50-50” now and he’s not impressed that nothing has been resolved yet.

“It was very busy for everyone so I wasn’t surprised,” he added.
