Scott and Woods named closing ceremony flag-bearers after medal wins

– Livigno: Olympic medalists Danielle Scott and Cooper Woods will carry the Australian flag at the 2026 Winter Olympics closing ceremony in Verona on Monday morning (AEDT).

Following the history-making Games, where Woods and Scott contributed to the country’s best Winter Olympics performance, Australian Chief of Mission Alisa Camplin said the pair showed what it means to be a champion.

“We’ve had so many outstanding performances at the Games and Cooper and Dani were no exception. They were completely themselves, they can show Australia that they know who they are and they can be champions,” Camplin said.

“They have proven that if you are determined and do it your way, all your dreams can come true. I feel like they personalized everything about this team at these Games, and I couldn’t think of two better people to bestow that privilege on.”

“The closing ceremony will be special, with the entire Australian team from different divisions in the Northern Italian Alps coming together at the Verona Olympic Arena. This will be the first big chance we have been able to mobilize as a team since the start of the Games,” he said.

Scott produced a surprising performance to win the women’s silver medal in his fourth Olympics, while Woods defied the odds to win men’s gold; this was Australia’s first medal at the Games.

“To have Australia’s most successful ever team at the Winter Olympics is huge. To be able to contribute to that too is a dream come true and these Games are even more special now that I’ve been named the flag bearer,” Scott said.

“This Australian team is very special. The athletes who will run behind us are doing everything in their favor right now… We are fierce competitors and we have shown it to the world,” he said.
