SCR’s ₹908 Crore POH Project to Create 5,000 Jobs

-Warangal: South Central Railway (SCR) has sanctioned ₹ 908.15 crore for setting up a Mega Maintenance Depot for freight wagons near Warangal-Mahbubabad route. The facility will include Periodic Maintenance (POH) and Routine Maintenance (ROH) units for engines and coaches.
The sanction orders were given by Swaraj Kumar, deputy chief mechanical engineer, railway. The project, the first of its kind in the SCR region, aims to increase railway maintenance capacity and will be developed on 300 acres of government land. It is expected to create approximately 5,000 direct employment opportunities.
The depot will be built along a railway line in the Mahbubabad district, which has been identified as suitable government land, and will contribute to the region’s growing railway infrastructure, which already includes the Bus Factory in Kazipet.
Local representatives, Mahbubabad MP Porika Balaram Naik, MLA Murali Naik and National ST Commission Member Jatothu Hussain Naik played a key role in securing the project, holding meetings with senior railway officials and submitting reports highlighting land availability and logistics advantages.
Once the facility becomes operational, it is expected to make Mahbubabad railway station an important center with increased technical and administrative activities. The station currently operates more than 300 trains daily connecting major cities like Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Vijayawada and Hyderabad.
Members of the Railway Mazdoor Union welcomed the project and described it as a great support in terms of employment and regional development, and thanked the railway authorities and public representatives for their efforts in bringing the project to the region.
