Sean Penn receives ‘Oscar’ in Ukraine after skipping US ceremony

US actor Sean Penn was presented with an Oscar-shaped award made from war-damaged rail metal by Ukraine after he skipped Sunday’s ceremony to visit the war-torn country.
Penn, 65, won his third Academy Award for his supporting actor role in the political thriller One Battle Another, but did not attend the ceremony.
In a video posted by Ukrainian Railways CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Pertsovskyi tells Penn: “You’re missing the Oscars… That’s what we did. This is from the wagon that was damaged by the Russians.”
Penn, a longtime advocate for Ukraine, has visited several times since the Kremlin began its full-scale invasion of the country four years ago.
He gave one of his Oscars as a gift To Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022.
