Searches continue after Budleigh Salterton swimmers in difficulty

Police said rescuers were continuing to search the waters off the Devon coast after reports of swimmers being in distress.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the beach at Budleigh Salterton at 10:25 GMT after concerns grew about people in the water, prompting a serious emergency response.

Police confirmed several people were brought safely to shore and will be checked by paramedics.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said Exmouth and Beer Coastguard Rescue teams, RNLI lifeboats from Exmouth and Torbay and coastguard search and rescue helicopters were dispatched to assist at the scene, along with the police and ambulance service.
