Two BRS Legislators’ Kins Get SIT Summons For Questioning

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the warrantless phone tapping cases, led by Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, has issued notices to BRS MLC Naveen Rao’s father Kondala Rao and BRS MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao’s son Sandeep Rao.
The strengthened SIT, during its investigation, found that the phones of Kondala Rao and Sandeep were tapped. The police stated in the notices that they had to come to the office in Jubilee Hills to record the details.
On January 4, the case reached a critical stage when BRS MLC K. Naveen Rao, along with his then subordinates, including former ASPs N. Bhujanga Rao and M. Thirupathanna and retired Task Force DCP B Radha Kishan Rao, were interrogated following exposure by the prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao.
Police sources revealed that during the last interrogation on January 4, Naveen Rao had revealed before the SIT that he had served as an important conduit between technical surveillance teams and senior BRS leaders during the party’s tenure.
The SIT collected technical and physical evidence that Naveen kept special electronic devices at his city residence to facilitate warrantless phone tapping operations. Investigators also recovered data from a crucial pen drive and other digital forensic data that allegedly implicated Naveen Rao as a vital link to unmask political beneficiaries of the espionage racket.
The investigation, which is being fast-tracked by the recently reconstituted nine-member SIT under the direct supervision of Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, is working towards an early 2026 deadline to file a supplementary chargesheet.
The investigation is now shifting focus from the technical practice of wiretapping to the political masterminds who allegedly allowed the surveillance of judges, businessmen and opposition politicians, sources explained.
Recently, the SIT interrogated former senior bureaucrats, including former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and former Intelligence Chief Naveen Chand, who were earlier questioned as witnesses.
Forensic analysis of the recovered hardware is expected to establish a direct chain of command from the SIB’s “war room” to the highest political offices of the previous regime. It has been reported that the MLA’s relatives will be interrogated today or on Thursday.
