Year-long golden jubilee celebrations of VSSC Central School begins on Saturday

VSSC Central School in Thumba, an educational institution operating under the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), turns 50 years old.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan will launch the year-long golden jubilee celebrations on October 18. Founded to serve the children of VSSC employees, the school had humble beginnings. Commissioned on June 28, 1976, it was initially housed in two Type II quarters within the VSSC housing colony. At that time there were three teachers and 28 students in Classes I to V.
In 1979, the school was converted into a secondary school. Following the adoption of the CBSE syllabus, membership in Class IX and X was secured in 1980. The first batch of Class X achieved a 100% pass rate in the 1982 AISSE examinations. The school was upgraded to high school level in 1987.
According to VSSC, VSSC Central School is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of year-round events. VSSC Director A. Rajarajan, Fluid Propulsion Systems Center Director M. Mohan, ISRO Inertial Systems Division Director L. Sowmianarayanan, VSSC Chief Controller Manoj C. and VSSC Group Director Technology Transfer and Documentation Group (TTDG) Harikrishnan R. will be present at the opening ceremony.
