The wet weather in England will continue this weekend, with scattered snow expected from the tip of Scotland to London on Friday ahead of Sunday’s big storm. Maps from WXCharts predicted that a band of rain would arrive from the northwest on February 13, hitting Scotland and northern England first, then moving across the country throughout the day.
From midnight on Friday, most of England, from Manchester to Southampton, will be under rain, only the south-west coast will be spared. Light snow is expected in Northumberland overnight, as is Wales, but Scotland will bear the brunt of the storm, with heavier snow in the north shown in dark purple on weather maps.

At 9am Yorkshire, Birmingham and the West Midlands will wake up to a slightly drier day. By this time the rain will target the south-east and white patches on maps indicate snow could fall in London and the counties north of the city.
However, the forecaster predicted that snow would not settle in the capital; This will be reserved for the north of the UK, with a heavier cover of snow expected to hang over the Pennines and up to 3cm of powder settling in Northumberland. Up to 2cm could settle in Wales by midday.
The heaviest snow will fall in Scotland. Maps predict it could settle 10cm west of Aberdeen by 12pm. Edinburgh could experience up to 3cm of accumulation and parts of the Scottish Borders could also be hit.
Luckily, temperatures are set to stay above freezing in the morning, so overnight rain won’t have a chance to turn to ice in most areas, but by 6pm temperatures will drop to -3C in northern England and -6C in parts of Scotland.
Friday’s showers look scattered. The real barrage will come days later on Sunday, when maps show the whole of the UK will be drenched in rain and snow.

The Met Office acknowledges snow forecasting is difficult and forecasts vary, but the outlook for Thursday to Saturday also calls for unsettled weather.
The statement said, “The weather will get colder starting from Friday and there is a possibility of snow showers, especially in the north. Saturday will be dry, cold and sunny for many people.”
It was stated that showers or longer rain are expected due to the dominance of Atlantic low pressure systems starting from Sunday. It was stated that heavy rain may focus on the hills in the west, while there may be snow in the north, especially in the higher elevations.
“Strong winds are possible at times, especially around the coast. Temperatures will likely be close to normal. There is a possibility that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop later in the period,” the statement said.
