Sen. Mark Warner won’t say if Swalwell should resign over allegations

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., did not respond Sunday on whether he believes California Rep. Eric Swalwell should resign from Congress following recent sexual harassment allegations.

“I want to ask about the rape and sexual harassment allegations against one of your fellow Democrats, Eric Swalwell,” CNN’s Dana Bash said on “State of the Union.” “He denies these allegations are false and says they never happened. You were the leader of your party. Do you think he should resign from Congress or face expulsion?”

“You know, Dana, I’ve seen the reports,” Warner said. “I think I’ve met Mr. Swalwell once or twice. I’d like to hear his side of the story, but frankly, if any of these allegations are true, he shouldn’t be running for governor anymore. But then again, I don’t know any of the facts. And I’m a little old school. I feel like I need to hear the facts before we start debating.”

Warner did not elaborate on whether he believes Swalwell should resign his congressional seat if the allegations are proven true. Bash did not contact Warner after his response.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Warner’s office for comment.

Swalwell was accused by a former employee of sexual assault while intoxicated. The San Francisco Chronicle first reported the unnamed former employee’s story, and three more women have since spoken to CNN with allegations of misconduct.

Swalwell is running for governor of California but has since faced calls to leaveIncluding those from within his own party. He vowed to fight the allegations against him.

“A lot has been said about me today through anonymous allegations, and I thought it was important for you to see and hear from me directly. These sexual assault allegations are completely false,” Swalwell said in a video released Friday. he said.

“These are absolute lies. It didn’t happen. It never did. And I will fight them with everything I have.”

Some Democratic candidates I started searching Swalwell is also expected to resign from Congress, as are Virginia Rep. Eugene Vindman, New Mexico Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal, and California Reps. Ro Khanna and Jared Huffman.

Other gubernatorial candidates Katie Porter, Tom Steyer and Tony Thurmond also called on Swalwell to resign.
