Bangladesh boycott T20 World Cup as ICC replace them with Scotland

Bangladesh has decided to boycott next month’s men’s T20 World Cup and will be replaced by Scotland.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has yet to officially announce the move but BBC Sport understands Scotland are set to take Bangladesh’s place in Group C as the top-ranked team not currently in the tournament.

Bangladesh had requested that their games be moved from India and played in Sri Lanka, which is hosting the tournament, instead, citing security concerns due to rising tensions between the countries.

Earlier this week, the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request, saying “there was no credible security threat” before the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) later reaffirmed its position.

A source close to the ICC board said the BCB was given the last 24 hours to confirm that they would travel to India.

This deadline has now passed and ICC officials have decided to work on an alternative plan to invite Scotland to join instead.
