Kessler Twins Alice And Ellen Die Together At 89

Popular German entertainers and twin sisters Alice and Ellen Kessler died together on Monday at the age of 89.

according to germans Bild newspaper, The sisters had chosen to “end their lives together” because they “didn’t want to live anymore.”

The German Society for Humane Mortality said the women died by medically assisted joint suicide in the Grünwald suburb near Munich. DGHS spokeswoman Wega Wetzel said. He spoke to CNN Tuesday regarding their deaths.

“The determining factor was probably the desire to die together on a certain date,” Wetzel told the press, adding that he did not know the exact reasoning behind the decision.

“Their wish to die was well thought out, long-standing, and free from any psychiatric crisis,” he said.

The twins are expected to be buried next to their mother Elsa and their dog Yello. They told Bild in April 2024 that they hoped his ashes would be brought together in a single urn.

In Germany, a person can end their life through medically assisted dying under certain conditions, including if they are an adult, mentally competent, and acting with full independence and intent, according to Bild.

The Kessler sisters’ rise to international stardom began when they became part of the Bluebell Girl group at the Lido in Paris; it was a move that launched their global careers. They were celebrated in post-war Europe not only for their artistry and elegance, but also for the unfailing immediacy that defined them.
