The Albanian government is well positioned to treat Australians’ pensions as a policy tool.

In 2023, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jim Chalmers announced that pension funds will “major national priorities“.More recently Chalmers marked The importance of ensuring pension funds can invest in housing and energy – two Labor priorities. Chalmers also tried managing the government’s own pension fundThe Future Fund will target Labour’s priorities in housing, manufacturing and energy.

Pension funds are not an instrument of government policy, not even the Future Fund.
