Several people ill after suspicious package opened at Joint Base Andrews

A spokesman for Joint Base Andrews said several people fell ill after a suspicious package was opened at Joint Base Andrews around 1 p.m. Thursday.
Base medical personnel responded immediately and treated multiple people who reported feeling sick, officials said. All patients were listed in stable condition and were later released.
“As a precaution, the building and associated building were evacuated and a cordon was established around the area,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News. he said. “First responders from Joint Base Andrew were dispatched to the scene, it was determined there was no immediate threat, and normal operations resumed. The investigation is currently ongoing.”

Authorities did not disclose what the package contained or what might have caused the symptoms. The base was temporarily locked down while emergency crews assessed the situation.

Several of the individuals were taken to Malcolm Grow Medical Center for evaluation.
Joint Base Andrews is home to Air Force One and other aircraft supporting the president, vice president and senior U.S. leaders.
