BRICS nations voice ‘serious concerns’ over Trump tariffs

BRICS leaders, meeting at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, are expected to reduce US President Donald Trump’s illegal and the risk of damaging the global economy, and is expected to reduce “random” trade tariffs.

According to a draft summit obtained by AFP on Saturday, developing countries representing about half of the world’s population and 40 percent of global economic production united on “serious concerns” about US import tariffs.

Since he took office in January, Trump threatened his allies and opponents with a number of punishing tasks.
The latest Salvo comes to the trade partners in the form of letters that provide information about the new tariff rates that will soon enter into force.

The Draft Summit Declaration does not mention the US or president by the name of the US or the leaders gathered for Sunday and Monday negotiations.

However, it is an open political shot from 11 developing countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. “We express serious concerns about the rise of unilateral tariffs and non -tariff measures that disrupt trade and are inconsistent with the rules of the WTO (World Trade Organization).” He warns that such measures “threaten to further reduce global trade” and “affect global economic development expectations”.

– No show – no show –

Designed as a forum for rapidly growing economies twenty years ago, the BRICs were seen as a Chinese -guided balance for Western power.

However, the political fist of the summit will be exhausted with the absence of China’s Xi Jinping, who jumped for the first time for the first time in 12 years.

This absence caused fever speculation in some neighborhoods.

“The simplest explanation can provide the most descriptive power. Xi has recently hosted Lula in Lula,” Ryan Hass, a former manager of the US National Security Council, which is with the Brookings Institute Think Tank. He said.

The Chinese leader will not be a single remarkable absenteeism. According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arises from war crime, also prefers to stay away, but will join the video connection.

Hass said that Putin’s participation and the fact that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the guest of honor in Brazil, there may be factors in the absence of Xi.

“Xi does not want to appear above by Modi, who will take a state lunch,” he said.

He continued: “Xi’s Premier Li (Qiang) decision is in the midst of these factors.”

Nevertheless, the Xi No Show is a blow to host President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, who wants Brazil to play a greater role in the world stage.

Until November 2025, Brazil will host a G20 Summit, a BRICS Summit and COP30 international climatic negotiations before going to the presidential elections that are expected to run next year.

Lula welcomed leaders and dignity on Saturday, including China’s leading Li Qiang, because the leftist president Rio hosted a day before the business forum.

“It is up to the developing countries to defend the multilateral trade regime faced with the revival of protectionism and reform international financial architecture.” He said.

Iranian President Masoud Pesshkian is still hanging from a 12 -day conflict with Israel, Pesshkian also jumps the meeting and will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

A source familiar with negotiations, Iran’s Iranian military, nuclear and other places recently bombing Israel and the United States of the US said that a more difficult condemnation, he said.

However, a diplomatic source said the text would give BRICS’s “the same message” last month.

Then Iran’s allies expressed “serious concern” about strikes against Iran, but they did not openly mention Israel or the US.

Artificial intelligence and health will be on the agenda at the summit.

The block joined the original members of Brazil, Russia, India and China in South Africa and more recently in Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia.
