Shapiro won’t commit to supporting Fetterman’s re-election bid

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that the New York Times’ Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa. He denied the report about his relationship with.

During the show, host Martha Raddatz asked the Democratic governor to comment on a New York Times article claiming that he and Fetterman were “not talking.” Shapiro insisted that the report was “not true” and was created by journalists to “create a lot of drama.”

Raddatz then asked if he would support Fetterman’s re-election.

“Well, he has to decide whether he wants to run for re-election,” Shapiro said. “This is not for another cycle.”

“I don’t know if he’s running for re-election. I think he needs to decide whether he’s running for office or not, and then we’ll make a decision from there,” he added.

Raddatz asked Shapiro to clarify that he meant he had not yet decided to support Fetterman.

“He needs to decide whether he’s going to run for re-election, and we’ll make a decision after that,” Shapiro echoed.

Although Shapiro did not answer whether he and Fetterman still talk, Shapiro described his relationship with Fetterman as “constructive.”

“We have a constructive relationship to ensure that the people of Pennsylvania are served. He and I are clearly different people, he casts some votes and takes some positions that I strongly disagree with, but at the end of the day, my job is to serve the people of Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. said Shapiro.

Fetterman’s “Unfettered” memoir revealed an incident in which he called Shapiro a “skk” over a parole board dispute in 2020 and threatened to run for governor in Shapiro’s primary in 2022.

“I told him there were two paths, one where he ran for governor and I ran for the Senate (which is what I preferred),” Fetterman wrote.

Fetterman wrote that his relationship with Shapiro never recovered after the disagreement.

“I sincerely wish him the best,” Fetterman wrote. “He is a credit to the state, and one day he may be a credit to the country. I remember fondly the days when we were nobodies trying to climb the ladder. Even though we don’t talk anymore.”
