Gov. Walz calls on Trump to halt ICE operations in Minnesota after shooting

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Saturday called on President Donald Trump to end sweeping Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the state following what officials and witnesses described as the second shooting this month by federal agents in Minneapolis.

“I just spoke with the White House following another horrific attack by federal agents this morning,” Walz wrote. to mail X. “It happened in Minnesota. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. He must remove thousands of violent, untrained officers from Minnesota. Now.”

The governor’s statements came later The Minnesota Star Tribune reported A man was shot and killed by federal agents, he said, citing Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. Multiple sources with knowledge of the case said the man was shot several times during an encounter with federal agents in south Minneapolis, the Tribune reported.

A video circulating online and taken outside Glam Doll Donuts shows agents wrestling with a man before gunshots are heard, investigators told the Tribune.

Minneapolis officials urged people to stay away from the area and remain calm as local law enforcement and state patrol units arrived to separate protesters from ICE personnel, the Tribune reported.

The latest shooting has further escalated a tense dispute that has been going on for weeks between Minnesota authorities and federal immigration officials. Earlier this month, an ICE agent fatally shot 37-year-old Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good during an enforcement operation that triggered widespread protests and precipitated a political backlash against the federal operation.
