Sharon Osbourne says artists should skip political speeches at award shows

Sharon Osbourne shares how she feels about artists who choose to make politically motivated speeches at award shows.

“While chatting with his son Jack Osbourne about a recently aired episodeThe Osbournes PodcastSharon said this while “getting it”[s] [that] Everybody needs their own platform,” he also understands, “Everyone needs relief from what’s going on in the world.”

“Everyone needs that escape,” he said. “And the thing is, I understand that people get really emotional about political issues.

“So when they go on TV knowing there’s 15 [to] The 16 million people watching in this country alone want to use this platform to show everyone how personally emotional they are about a situation.

“I understand, but they also need to understand that Joe Public needs a break.”

He said that regardless of the awards they win, even though they have a “huge platform”, “it’s not always about you” and those watching at home need to understand that they are already living in “fear”.

The former ‘X Factor UK’ judge added that these artists should “save it for your own little platform”.

Sharon’s daughter Kelly Osbourne sparked concerns about her weight after attending the Brit Awards in February. Kelly took to Instagram earlier this month to call out body shavers.

“There is a special kind of cruelty in hurting someone who is clearly going through something,” he wrote on his Instagram story. “Kicking me when I was down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, turning your back when I needed support and love the most.”

He added that comments about her weight showed a “deep lack of compassion and character” because she was “going through the toughest time of her life.”

This isn’t the first time she’s had to defend herself against people commenting on her weight. She previously said she “can’t believe how disgusting some people really are” after someone commented that she “looked like a corpse” and that they thought she would “see her dad soon”.

His father, legendary rock musician and Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, died in July 2025, just weeks after playing his final concert with the band in Birmingham, England.

Kelly previously talked about what it was like for her to grow up in the spotlight, telling the crowd at the Inaugural Beacher Vitality Happy and Healthy Summit in May 2025, “We live in a fat-phobic world,” according to People magazine.
