A man is dead and another has been arrested following a stabbing at a house in Melbourne’s west in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the property in Jackman Court, a cul-de-sac in Wyndham Vale, at around 3.15am following reports of a knife attack at the address.
A few neighbors said Nine News They could hear loud music booming from a house along the street late Saturday night and were later awakened by the lights of an emergency vehicle outside their window.
While getting out of the taxi in front of his house around 11 pm, Daljeet Singh noticed that his neighbors were having a party. He said the meeting appeared peaceful at the time.
Singh realized something was wrong when he got out of bed Sunday morning and went to his street full of cops.
“It’s very sad,” Singh said.
Police said first responders found a man with serious injuries. The person, whose identity has not yet been officially determined, died at the scene.
Officers arrested a 39-year-old man from Wyndham Vale who is believed to be known to the victim. The man was taken into custody for questioning by detectives, but no charges had been filed as of Sunday afternoon.
“The crime scene has been identified and the investigation continues,” police said.
On Sunday morning, part of the small suburban street remained closed as police officers wearing face masks took photos of the scene and collected evidence.
A portion of the facility’s driveway was covered with a SES tent.
Local resident Barry Hassell said the incident was shocking.
“There’s a lot of movement up and down here, so I’m always quick to look at the blinds and stuff. I wasn’t expecting that,” Hassell said.
“It feels a bit surreal to be honest. I never expected it to be this close to my home.”
Dad-of-two Hassell said the street was generally peaceful compared to other parts of Wyndham Vale further south.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before. The most common thing we encounter is some burning in the process,” Hassell said.
Resident Vicki Presser said Jackman Court was “the quietest street in the suburb.”
“I think it’s probably time for more efforts to stop this type of crime,” Presser said.
