Seat-sharing talks between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) are in the final stage as the nomination process for the municipal corporation elections is set to begin from Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday, December 22, 2025, reiterated that the Thackeray brothers will announce the political alliance within two days.
“The wait is almost over as today is the last round of discussions. Tomorrow or the next day, the alliance and seat sharing will be announced in a grand manner,” said Mr. Raut, adding that the Thackeray brothers were united on a personal level; Only political alliance remained.

On Monday, senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar and Nitin Sardesai also visited Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s residence Matoshri in Dadar for discussions. Nitin Sardesai said, “The talks are in the final stage, maybe a new round of meetings may be held after consulting Raj Thackeray for a few seats. But so far it is proving to be good and positive.”
After the Maharashtra Assembly elections, in which the Shiv Sena (UBT) performed poorly, winning only 20 seats out of 288, his cousin Raj Thackeray’s party MNS won zero seats and both decided to form a new union. The Thackeray cousins have been seen at various public meetings and events ending their two-decade-long estrangement. However, they have yet to officially announce their alliance for the elections scheduled for January 15. Nomination filings will open on December 23 and December 30 will be the last day in all 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including Mumbai.
Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab and Sanjay Raut also met Raj Thackeray to discuss seat sharing. Both the parties will contest in Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Nashik and other Municipal Corporations. However, speculation is that the conflict is in seats where both parties have high influence or areas with high Marathi demographic presence, including Dadar, Sewri, Worli and others.
Calling it a “new experiment”, Mr. Raut added: “Municipal Corporation elections are high-risk elections; scrutiny of the seat-sharing list will continue till the last moment.”
