Raj Thackeray, in the presence of his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, announced the long-awaited alliance between his parties Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the January 15 local body elections in Mumbai on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Noting that the current announcement is about Mumbai, Raj said that a similar announcement will be made for Nashik as well. “We are in talks with Sharad Pawar. Today we are announcing an alliance between both of us,” he added. However, Mr. Raj did not share details about seat sharing between the two parties for the high-stakes BMC elections.
“The Mumbai Mayor will be a Marathi citizen and will be from our parties,” Mr. Raj said.
Alliance talks between the two parties for the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections have been going on for a while.
Speaking about the alliance, Mr. Uddhav said: “We have come together to stay together. We will finish off those who want to take over Mumbai. I want to tell Marathi: manooIf you leave right now, you will be defeated.”
“Those who cannot bear to see what is happening in the BJP can also come with us,” he added.
Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Sanjay Raut called it a historic day for Maharashtra and added: “‘Mangal kalash’ will herald the leadership of the Thackerays. Only they can rule the state.”
