A man has been seriously injured in a drive-by shooting in Huddersfield. West Yorkshire Police were called to Springwood Hall Gardens on Thursday, November 20, following reports of shots fired at around 5.35pm. A 27-year-old man was found inside a car in the driveway with a serious leg injury and less serious injuries to his back.
Examinations at the hospital concluded that the injury to his leg was caused by a sharp weapon, and that the man also suffered pellet wounds in his back after his car was shot at. Police believe two men were involved in the attack and fled the scene in a black car driven by a third person. A police spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a gunshot attack in Huddersfield.
“The Homicide and Major Investigations Team (HMET) would like to speak to anyone who may be able to assist with investigations into the incident at Springwood Hall Gardens on the evening of Thursday 20 November,” the spokesman added. YorkshireLive.
“At around 17.35, the police were called to the scene upon a report of a possible firearm leaking onto the street.
“Officers responded and found a car in the driveway containing an injured 27-year-old man. The victim had suffered a serious leg injury and minor back injuries.
“He was taken to the hospital for treatment. It was determined that the injury to his leg was not life-threatening and was caused by a cutting weapon.
“Further investigation confirmed that the damage to the car was caused by a gunshot blast and that the male’s back injuries were pellet wounds. The two male suspects thought to have been involved in the attack are thought to have fled the scene in a black car driven by a third person.”
Detective Constable Tom Hilyer, from the Homicide and Major Investigation Team, who are leading the investigation, said: “Any incident involving the use of firearms in our communities is treated with the utmost seriousness and I can assure residents that a full investigation will be carried out into what has occurred.
“In this incident, it appears that a firearm was thrown at the suspects, and then they attacked the victim in his vehicle with a knife before escaping.
“This is clearly a very violent, targeted incident and it is important that those who were prepared to act in such a lawless manner are brought to justice as quickly as possible. “From investigations we believe there were potential witnesses on the street at the time of the shooting and we would ask them or anyone with relevant footage or information that could assist the investigation to contact us.”
