The 30-year-old player, who suffered a blunt injury to his abdomen while taking the field during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, shared new developments about his recovery on his social media account.
India middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer on Monday said he was grateful to be back and thanked everyone for all the love and care shown during his recovery from the injury he sustained during the recent tour of Australia.
Shreyas Iyer’s update comes as a major boost after he was admitted to a hospital in Sydney after suffering a spleen injury and internal bleeding following the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25.

“The sun has been great therapy. I’m grateful to be back, thank you for the love and care,” Iyer wrote on Instagram on Monday. The injury occurred when Iyer caught Alex Carey by running backwards from a point to clear him and immediately grabbed his chest.
The 30-year-old Iyer, who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in December 2017, was removed from the field and did not return for the rest of the game. The Indian team immediately took Iyer to the hospital for scans; Internal bleeding and spleen rupture were detected here, and then urgent surgical intervention was needed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on November 1 that Iyer had been discharged from a hospital in Sydney and that experts in Australia and India were happy with his recovery. The Indian team had posted team doctor Rizwan Khan along with Iyer at the hospital in Sydney.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also thanked the board for ensuring that Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury, Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team and Dr. He said he expressed his sincere gratitude to Dinshaw Pardiwala.
Since then, the right-hander was in Sydney for follow-up talks and as per the update, it looks like he will be returning to India soon. Iyer will remain out of action for at least the next few months to ensure a full recovery and match fitness when he returns home.
