Bondi Beach Shooters IS, Pakistan Connection
One of the gunmen was interrogated six years ago by Australia’s domestic intelligence agency ASIO because of his close ties to the Sydney-based Islamic State (IS) terror cell, ABC News reported. Some other reports claimed that the two gunmen came from Pakistan and immigrated to Australia years ago.
An Islamic State flag and some explosives were reportedly found in their car at Bondi Beach.
As reported by ABC News, ASIO began investigating Naveed Akram shortly after the arrest of ISIS terrorist Isaac Al Matari in Sydney in July 2019.
Akram had close links to Matari, who declared himself the terror group’s Australian commander and was serving a seven-year prison sentence for plotting the ISIS insurgency, according to one official.
