Getty ImagesAre you ready for this? Jess Glynne’s Hold My Hand has been named the UK’s TikTok song of the year, thanks to the viral ‘nothing beats Jet2holiday’ trend.
The 2015 hit became associated with holiday company advertising over the years, but took on new life as TikTok users began using the sound to joke about holiday fails, travel chaos and mishaps.
The song, which was crowned TikTok’s UK and global song of the summer earlier this year, has soundtracked nearly 6.6 million videos on the platform, according to TikTok.
The British singer released the song more than a decade ago and it became her first single to top the charts.
It was ‘crazy’
The 36-year-old from London told BBC Newsbeat that she “feels blessed” to have secured the TikTok title this year.
“It’s such an amazing feeling to know that 10 years later, a song that means so much to me, that has been such an important part of my musical journey and my success as a solo artist – that I can celebrate it over and over again throughout this year, 10 years later – is such an amazing feeling,” he said.
Jess said the trend gave the song “new life” and the “enjoyment” she got from the track made it one of her favorite songs to play.
The pop star revealed that she had to listen to herself on the plane when she went on a Jet2 holiday to the Greek island of Corfu with her family.
“I was a little nervous, sitting at the front next to my mother – it was actually quite funny,” he recalled.
Getty ImagesDespite being part of the internet meme that’s been on everyone’s TikTok feed this summer, Jess said she tends to look a little different.
Normally, when browsing through the app, the singer comes across cooking videos, cat compliments and moments where people have been caught falling.
But the star admitted that his favorite Jet2 Holiday videos are the ones where parents make their children say the famous voiceover: “Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday”.
However, our all-time favorite version of the trend featured a man who got a surprise in his hotel room.
“He went to open the curtain and the window was really small, which really tickled me; it was like a prison cell,” he said.
Jess said the trend’s popularity showed her how important social media can be for artists, and she now sees it as “a great way to engage with people.”
“It’s been really cool to see how the song has reconnected with the younger generation and to see them all hearing it for the first time,” he added.
The signer rose to fame in 2014 following his feature on Clean Bandit’s hit Pretty Be, followed by a collaboration with Route 94 on My Love, which both reached the top of the UK charts.
In 2015, he released his first album, I Cry When I Laugh, which also reached number one.
Its follow-up, Always In Among, also topped the charts in 2018, and last year he released his self-titled third album, which peaked at number six.
Posts using the Hold My Hand audio on TikTok have been viewed more than 80 billion times, according to the social media platform.
It also ranked second among TikTok’s top 20 global songs of 2025.
But that’s not the only old song the platform is reintroducing through trends this year.
Users rediscovered Rihanna’s Breakin’ Dishes in 2007, Radiohead’s Let Down in 1997, and Black Eyed Peas’ Rock That Body in 2010.
But Pretty Little Baby, by the late Connie Francis, beat them all to take TikTok’s global song of the year award, sixty years after its release in 1962.
The song has been used more than 28 million times and is often soundtracked to wholesome videos about pets, family and relationships.
