Sudipto Sen won the Best Director National Film Award for the Kerala story

The 71st National Film Awards were announced on Thursday, August 1. Sudipto Sen was named the best director for the controversial film The Kerala story, a decision that led to ugly reactions. The Kerala story, ruled by Adah Sharma, has released over 300 RS worldwide and became one of the largest Bollywood hits in 2023. However, the socio-political thriller was faced with many protests throughout the country, called Islamophobic and received negative investigations from hearing and criticism.

Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey shared the best actor for Jawan and the 12th National Film Award. Rani Mukji was declared as the best player winner in Norway, Legal Drama Mrs. Chatterjee V/S. Bollywood’s other major winners Vicky Kaushal star Sam Bahadur won the best makeup and best costume designer awards. Ranbir Kapoor’s animal also received three national awards for the best sound design, the best music director (background score) and a special mention for re -registration.

The 71st National Film Awards honored the best performances and cinematic achievements from Indian Films, which were certified by the CBFC (Central Film Certificate Center) between 1 January 2023 and December 31, 2023. The winners list was announced by the jury panel at a press conference in the National Media Center New Delhi. Ashutosh Gowariker served as the jury president for the feature films.
