Amaravati ORR Project Enters Fast Lane

Vijayawada: The state government has stepped up efforts to build a 190 km-long Outer Ring Road (ORR) surrounding the capital Amaravati.
ORR will have a six-lane carriageway with two service roads on each side, giving a total of up to ten lanes.
The Highways Authority has completed a detailed project report and submitted it to the NHAI headquarters for approval. The project is estimated to cost Rs 24.791 billion and with a planned footprint longer than Hyderabad’s 158 km ORR, the Amaravati ORR is set to be a major growth driver for the capital region.
It is learned that NHAI officials are reviewing the DPR. Once the project is approved, it will be implemented in 12 stages. With full implementation, the Amaravati ORR is expected to transform the region’s transportation network and boost regional economic activity.
Officials stated that the state government’s share of the total project cost, which includes land acquisition and related infrastructure facilities, is Rs 3.117 billion.
As per NHAI’s proposal, the project will be implemented in 12 packages. Each package will be awarded to contractors through separate tenders.
Land acquisition is carried out in a width of 140 meters along the entire line. The state government has promised to cover 1,000 billion rupees for land acquisition costs.
As part of the project, two major six-lane bridges will be constructed across the Krishna River; one will be 3.15 km long near Munnalur and the other will be 4.8 km long near Munnangi. Once completed, these bridges will facilitate connectivity between Guntur, Vijayawada and Tenali.
The Amaravati ORR route passes through the forest area near Ganginenipalem, where two tunnels are planned due to the rugged terrain. These will be 1.64 km and 2.68 km. The tunnels are designed to ensure smooth road continuity without disrupting the local ecosystem.
Two spur roads will connect Amaravati core region to ORR. The first road, which is 17.5 km long and has six lanes, will start near Tenali and connect to the Vijayawada ring road via Kaza Toll Plaza. The second line, which is 5.2 km long and four lanes, will extend from Narakoduru to Budampadu on the outskirts of Guntur.
