Sister of murdered girl, 5, says killer should ‘suffer’ | UK | News

April Jones’ sister said she wanted the man convicted of taking the five-year-old’s life to suffer after he was attacked in prison.

Mark Bridger was convicted of child abduction, murder, perverting the course of justice and unlawful concealment and disposal of a corpse and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013.

Bridger rented an apartment near where the kidnapping took place, and parts of April’s body were found in Bridger’s cabin. Most of his remains were never found.

Almost 14 years after her death, April’s older sister Hazel Jones, now 31, has spoken of the horror of losing her sister.

Hazel told MailOnline: “It’s been 13 years and it still hasn’t quite sunk in. I still don’t believe it. I don’t know if I want to believe it but I don’t believe it’s happening to us. I’m still waiting to wake up from this nightmare.”

Hazel said she believes Bridger should “suffer” while serving his life sentence. In 2025, Bridger was attacked by another prisoner at HMP Wakefield.

Bridger was attacked for the second time in prison last month.

“He deserves everything he gets. He literally deserves everything,” Hazel said after hearing about the second attack on Bridger behind bars.

“The death penalty is an easy way out. He didn’t give April an easy way out, did he? Make her suffer, make her live because she doesn’t go out every day. Make her live in fear.”
