Buildings in various parts of the capital were damaged in the first major attack on Kiev since late September.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that at least six people, including two children, were killed in Russia’s intense drone and missile attacks on cities in Ukraine.

Another 21 people were injured in another night of attacks, which Moscow said proved it was not under enough pressure to continue the war.

Hours earlier, US President Donald Trump said plans for an upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest had been shelved because he did not want a “wasted meeting”.

The Kremlin has rejected calls from both Trump and European leaders for a ceasefire on existing front lines.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military said it attacked a Russian chemical facility in the Bryansk border region late Tuesday with British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles.

Describing the attack as a “successful strike” that penetrated the Russian air defense system, military officials said the Bryansk plant “produced gunpowder, explosives and rocket fuel components used in munitions and missiles used by the enemy to bombard Ukrainian territory.”

Zelensky, who will visit Swedish defense contractor Saab on Wednesday, returned from his meetings with Trump last Friday. Failed to persuade the US president to provide long-range Tomahawk missiles.

“When the issue of long-range missiles became a little distant for us, that is, for Ukraine, Russia almost automatically became less interested in diplomacy,” Zelensky said. he said.

Ukraine’s capital was subjected to a wave of attacks overnight for the first time since September 28.

A couple in their 60s and four people in the wider Kiev region were killed when a drone crashed into high-rise buildings in the city. The victims included a woman, a 6-month-old baby and a 12-year-old girl.

The capital was under ballistic missile warning for most of the night and the sounds of explosions were echoing. In the morning, rescue teams fought fires in residences.

Russia’s attacks across Ukraine once again targeted the energy infrastructure, resulting in emergency power outages in many regions.

Inna Sovsun, a member of parliament in Kiev, told the BBC that the airstrikes continued throughout the night and were clearly an attack on the electricity supply: “For the majority like me, this means we have no electricity and no water.”
