Tiffany Salmond hits back at trolls after new deepfake images emerge online

Popular NRL presenter Tiffany Salmond has hit out at trolls after sexually explicit deepfake images surfaced online, highlighting the growing trend of digitally manipulated content targeting public figures. Salmond previously revealed that he was targeted in May when a bikini photo was altered using artificial intelligence.

Now, the 27-year-old actor has spoken out again after new deepfake images from Instagram were altered to show him committing overt acts. He condemned not only the creators of the content, but also those who claimed that he orchestrated the deepfakes to attract attention.

“Earlier this year, I publicly mentioned that I had been the target of artificial intelligence-generated deepfakes (fake sexual images created from my real photographs without my consent),” Salmond said on his Instagram story.

“But what I didn’t talk about until now was the doubt and suspicion that followed.

“Over the past few months, I have seen a constant narrative online accusing me of faking the story for attention.”
Salmond said one of the biggest problems behind disturbing online videos was a lack of understanding from people who were not personally affected by the issue.
“Claiming that deepfakes were never real and that I made it all up. I stopped talking about it months ago because I’d already said what I needed to say. But that doesn’t mean it’s over.”
“For those who thought this was a one-off, it wasn’t. Deepfakes continued to be made and published. The most recent deepfake (and the most explicit yet) was shared online just three weeks ago,” he wrote.
