Secret Huddle In Delhi? Why Bangladesh’s NSA Flew In Delhi A Day Before Schedule | World News

New Delhi: Bangladesh National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman’s sudden advance of his trip to India has triggered new speculations in strategic circles in both countries. He was initially expected to be in New Delhi on November 19, but changed his plans and flew a full day earlier, landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport a little after 6:30 pm on November 18.
His arrival comes just ahead of the seventh meeting of National Security Advisers on Colombo Security Meeting, scheduled to be held at Hyderabad House on November 20. The main discussions among the group’s NSAs will begin that morning and continue until lunch, after which Rahman is expected to return to Dhaka.
While the agenda looks routine on paper, diplomatic observers familiar with recent India-Bangladesh talks believe Rahman’s early arrival sheds light on ongoing talks between the two governments, especially at a time when the tone of political communication has changed in recent months.

The visit took place at the invitation of India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The chief advisor of the Bangladesh Press Office announced that Rahman will lead the Dhaka delegation at the conclave on November 19-20. It was emphasized that his participation reflected the interim government’s intention to strengthen regional cooperation wherever possible.
“His participation in the Colombo Security Meeting in New Delhi is a continuation of the Interim Government’s efforts to promote mutually beneficial regional cooperation,” the chief advisor’s press wing said, while confirming that this will be Rahman’s first trip to India since taking over as NSA on April 9, 2025.
Prior to his appointment, he served as high representative of the chief advisor on the Rohingya issue and has long been involved in advocating for humanitarian assistance to civilians in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. He was an early proponent of the “humanitarian corridor” proposal aimed at supporting those trapped in conflict zones.
Hours after Dhaka announced his travel plans, Rahman visited Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma’s residence in the Baridhara diplomatic area; This development was also confirmed by diplomatic sources in the capital of Bangladesh.
Officials in Dhaka emphasize that the interim government has placed regional cooperation among its top priorities and continues to be active on platforms involving neighboring countries. Rahman has become one of the most visible diplomatic faces of the interim administration, representing Bangladesh in meetings with officials from the United States, Qatar, China and many other countries.
The decision to reach Delhi ahead of schedule became a hot topic in the lead-up to the conclave, with many in the region interpreting it as a sign of deeper consultations awaiting behind closed doors.
