Snow maps show 400-mile blizzards hitting 51 UK cities as England buried – full list | Weather | News

The forecast published yesterday (January 14) showed more snow will fall on the UK by the end of this month, and maps on WXCharts.com say the UK will be hit again on Tuesday, January 27, when a 400-mile snowstorm will approach the country.

According to these maps, it will snow all over the country from the north of Scotland to London, and the east of England will also be affected by snowfall. Parts of Wales and south-west England, including Bristol, may also see some snow. The north west of England and Scotland could be covered in up to 20cm of snow.

This is due to the Siberian cold, which could reach the south of England and the country, including London, towards the end of this month.

Some northern parts of Scotland could again be covered in up to 50cm of snow, but the latest maps show some areas around Dundee and Aberdeen could see up to 77cm of snow. The north of England, particularly Newcastle, was covered in up to 33cm of snow, while the rest of the country (London area) could see up to 5cm. Temperatures from Scotland to the south of England could drop several degrees below zero again.

The Met Office’s long-term forecast also suggests a “potential shift to colder weather” which “could also increase the likelihood of snow in parts of the country”.

This forecast covers the period from January 20 to January 29, the Met Office said. The full forecast reads: “During this period the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems trying to arrive from the west and high pressure and colder conditions trying to exert some influence from the east.

“Initially, milder Atlantic weather is expected to prevail. This will maintain variable conditions, often cloudy, with showers or longer periods of rain. The wettest weather will be in the western parts of the country, with drier weather in the east. Temperatures are generally expected to be around average, with some overnight frosts in clearer areas.

“The likelihood of conditions cooling increases later in the period. This aspect of the forecast is still uncertain, but the possibility of a transition to colder weather also increases the likelihood of snow in some parts of the country.”
