Snow maps turn purple as 515-mile blizzard batters 45 counties – full list | Weather | News

The UK will be plagued by snowstorms this month, with wintry weather expected in 45 counties, according to a forecaster. WXCharts has weather maps for January 26 showing snow, rain, and low temperatures.

Snow will be heaviest in the north of England (Carlisle, Blackpool, Manchester) and the south of Scotland (Dumfries). It will also snow across much of southern and central Scotland (Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow) and the north of England (Newcastle, Sheffield, Leeds). Snow will also be seen in the midlands (Stoke, Derby, Milton Keynes) and East Anglia (Peterborough, Cambridge, Colchester). Temperatures will be lowest at -4C in the Cairngorms National Park, while the rest of Scotland and the north of England will be between 0C and -2C. The midlands, Wales and East Anglia will be between 1C and -1C, while the south of England will be between 1C and 3C. The Met Office said of the period: “During this period the UK will see a battle between Atlantic weather systems attempting to arrive from the west and high pressure and cooler conditions attempting to exert some influence from the east.

“Milder Atlantic weather is expected to prevail initially, which will maintain variable conditions with mostly clouds, showers or longer periods of rain.

“The weather is wettest in the western parts of the country, while it is drier in the east. Temperatures are generally likely to be around average, while there will be some night frosts in more open areas.

“The likelihood of conditions cooling increases later in the period. This aspect of the forecast is still uncertain, but the possible shift to colder weather also increases the likelihood of snowfall in some parts of the country.”
