Small plane lands on Georgia road ‘in the middle of hundreds of vehicles’ | Georgia

A single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a busy road in Georgia, striking three vehicles and slightly injuring two people, authorities said.

The Hawker Beechcraft BE-36 crash-landed Monday on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta, due to reported engine problems, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Gainesville police.

“We lost our engine while taking off from Gainesville,” pilot Thomas Rogers told WAGA-TV. “We tried to float back, we did everything by the book, but we realized we couldn’t go back the further we were, so we set off.”

Gainesville police Chief Kevin Holbrook said the plane hit three vehicles and its fuel tank hit one of them. It was stated that 2 people who were slightly injured were taken to the hospital.

Noting that the road is one of the main arteries in northeastern Georgia, Holbrook said, “It is very remarkable that they landed in the middle of hundreds of vehicles and hit only three of them, and there were no power lines.” “It’s truly surprising that no one was seriously injured or killed.”
