Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has come under fire from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for his comments on spending on diyas and candles during Diwali celebrations. Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday, referring to the expenses incurred by the Uttar Pradesh government during Diwali, said a lesson should be learned from places abroad where the entire city is lit up for months during Christmas. Akhilesh Yadav said, “… I don’t want to make a suggestion. But I will make a suggestion regarding the name of Lord Ram. During Christmas time in the world, the whole city is illuminated and continues to be illuminated. And this continues for months. We must learn from them.”
