South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed on Sunday to establish a strategic partnership between their countries and expand cooperation in various sectors, including defense and trade.
The leaders announced the launch of the strategic partnership at the joint press conference held at the presidential office after the summit talks held during Wong’s official visit to South Korea.
“Our two countries have many similarities, as despite limited land, scarce resources and a challenging geopolitical environment, we have achieved both remarkable growth based on human capital and an open free trade regime,” Lee said. he said.

According to Yonhap news agency, the two sides reached an initial agreement on the export of beef and pork from Jeju Island to Singapore and agreed to further deepen cooperation in the fields of security, defense, artificial intelligence, high technology, people-to-people transactions and international crimes such as online fraud.
According to the presidential office, under the strategic partnership, the two countries will step up cooperation to better combat global challenges such as climate change and transnational crimes, amid an unstable international order that has long underpinned global growth and prosperity.
Wong noted the significant potential for cooperation in the fields of green industry, digital industry, security and defense, and expressed his full support for South Korea’s efforts to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula.
At the meeting, the two sides also signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) on digital cooperation, logistics and transportation, culture and sports.
Wong is in Seoul after attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and related events in the southeastern city of Gyeongju last week.
