“Roughly, for these regions, we are forecasting around 5 to 10 cm” of snow, indicates Kathleen Maynard, meteorologist at Environment Canada.

Already, shortly before 11 a.m., 7 cm were reported in Montreal, 11 cm for Joliette and 7 cm for Saint-Hyacinthe.

There could be a precipitation rate of 2 centimeters per hour at times, which could reduce visibility, specifies Environment Canada in a bulletin on the subject, published shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday.

The snow should stop falling early to mid-afternoon, depending on the region.

In Montreal, temperatures will be stable around zero, with a feeling of -8 in the afternoon due to wind chill – gusts of 30 to 50 km/h are particularly expected. Blowing snow could also be created in places.

Caution on the roads is required. According to Québec 511, a road exit was reported Sunday morning on the A-20 near Saint-Hyacinthe, leading to the closure of one lane out of two at kilometer 130, heading west. In Montreal, the A40 is currently closed eastbound, at exit 77 (boulevard Lacordaire), due to an accident.

For the rest of the week, temperatures should remain stable around zero, accompanied by a few snowflakes on Monday, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, as well as Wednesday. A new system on Thursday could bring snow, and possibly icy or rain.

“It doesn’t really feel like spring,” summarizes Kathleen Maynard.
