A decision on the offer of India for the 2036 Olympics will take longer than expected to establish a working group to identify a future host to identify a future host in the whole process by Kirsty Coventry’s new president of the International Olympic Committee on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
At a press conference after the first woman and IOC’s first African president as the first African president, the former Olympic champion swimmer said that the consensus between the members was to revise the process. Previously, a decision on the proposal next year was expected.

Zimbabwe, 41 -year -old Zimbabwe, after chairing the first executive board meeting in Lausanne, said 41 -year -old Zimbabwe, “IOC members and the future host had an overwhelming support for the review of the election process and we will set up a working group to look at it.”
“For two main reasons. First, the members want to participate more and the second was a great debate about when the next landlord would be given,” he added.
Coventry said that the management board members felt that the experience of future landlords (2028 summer games), Brisbane (2032 Summer Games) and French Alps (2030 Winter Games) should be examined before progressing on future proposals.
“So there was a lot of discussion about when the appropriate time was to choose a future host.” He added.
India presented a letter of intention to host the 2036 matches in October last year. Sports secretary Hari Ranjan Rao led by senior officials, is planned to be in Lausanne for informal talks on the issue next month.
