Southwest cancels Austin-Chicago O’Hare route as part of wider cuts

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Southwest Airlines will discontinue its nonstop route from Austin to Chicago O’Hare as part of broader cuts to “improve its network.”
Airline announced It will discontinue all service to O’Hare and Washington Dulles starting June 4. Southwest currently operates the AUS-ORD route but does not fly directly from AUS to Dulles.
“These changes do not represent any significant change in flight availability for these cities as we will continue our strong service on Chicago Midway (MDW), Baltimore Washington International (BWI) and Washington Reagan National (DCA),” the airline said in a statement.

Southwest’s AUS-O’Hare route is currently served by American Airlines, Frontier Airlines and United Airlines.
