Southwest to launch four new nonstop routes from Austin in October

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Southwest Airlines continues its expansion at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with four new nonstop routes planned for October.
Year-round service to Memphis will begin October 1, with flights scheduled to operate six days a week. Seasonal service to Destin, Florida, Knoxville, Tennessee and Santa Rosa, California will begin October 3.
The AUS-Memphis route is currently served by Delta Air Lines, while Allegiant Air flies the AUS-Knoxville route. Destin and Santa Rosa are the airport’s new nonstop points. Delta had previously announced plans to fly from Austin to Destin starting in June, but later canceled that route in favor of service to Asheville, North Carolina.
“We continue to add more Southwest service for our customers where we are already strong,” said Adam Decaire, Southwest’s senior vice president of network planning. “We will meet our customers where they are with an advanced product that complements our best-in-class reliability and service.”
The new routes are in addition to five other routes planned to launch in March and June. Southwest previously announced plans to open a team base in AUS in March, bringing an estimated 2,000 jobs to the city.
Announced as an airline company Anchor tenant at AUS’s planned Concourse BA new terminal planned to be completed around 2030. Southwest is currently the largest airline operating in AUS in terms of passenger traffic and will account for 41% of all passengers by 2025.
