The Canadian junior hockey team’s pockets are thousands of dollars lighter after one of the team’s scouts got into trouble during an interview at the league draft.
Problem? He told a reporter that he was handsome.

The Vancouver Giants play in the Western Hockey League, one of three leagues that make up the Canadian Hockey League, the top tier of junior hockey in North America, along with the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
The WHL held its annual draft this week, so 85-year-old scout Terry Bonner hopped on the league’s draft stream to discuss his latest selections.
But he wanted to talk about the woman working the desk.
“Thank you very much,” Bonner said. “You are a very nice girl.”

Okay, I understand it’s 2026 and that’s not a good thing, no matter how well-intentioned a comment like that might be. The server was there to do a job and was acting as professional as possible and that wasn’t necessarily reciprocated.
However…
We need to give the old men more time off on such matters. So, at first it was a little bit borderline, but then when you realize this is coming from an 85-year-old, we have to move on.

I’m not saying he was right, I’m saying let’s not waste our energy getting angry at an old man for doing an old man’s job.
I think a quick “Hey, Terry man, you can’t tell women they’re handsome anymore… yeah man, I know it’s a compliment, but that’s just the way it is now” would have sufficed.
No.
Cue the penalty and the humiliating league apology.
“Accountability is a cornerstone value of our League – it includes both players and staff. In this case, regardless of intent, the statements do not reflect the organization’s standards of respect and inclusion,” WHL Commissioner Dan Near said in a statement after announcing the Giants were fined $5,000 for conduct detrimental to the league. he said.
Wow. That’s a bit harsh, isn’t it?
