Speaker must recognise S.P. Venkateswaran as PMK floor leader: Anbumani

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday said Speaker M. Appavu should recognize SP Venkateswaran as the grassroots leader of PMK, Sadasivam as the deputy grassroots leader and C. Sivakumar as the Whip of the party in the State Assembly.

Dr. Anbumani, in a statement, said on Friday that Mr. Appavu was only the floor leader etc. of the parties having 10% of the total number of seats in the Assembly. He reminded that he said that parties with fewer seats could only be officially recognized as a group.

Choice of parties

“What he said applies only to the recognition of a party as the main opposition. In other cases, members are recognized based on the election of the parties. Parties are invited to all party meetings only on the basis of this. The Speaker should not change this convention,” Dr Anbumani said.
