Speeding luxury car mows down 16 in Rajasthan’s Jaipur; 1 dead

A speeding luxury car plowed into pedestrians near Kharabas Circle in Patrakar Colony area of Jaipur on Friday night, January 9, 2026, killing one person and injuring 15 others, police said.
Four of the seriously injured were referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.
The car first hit a barrier, went out of control and crashed into stalls and food carts on the roadside for 30 meters before coming to a stop. In the incident that caused panic in the region, many parked vehicles were also damaged.
Police stated that there were four people in the vehicle and that they were allegedly drunk. While one person was detained, the others escaped. The vehicle was seized.
All the injured were taken to Jaipuria Hospital for initial treatment. While eight of them were hospitalized, the others were admitted to private hospitals or went home with their family members.
One of the injured, Bhilwara resident Ramesh Bairwa, later died during treatment. Police said four patients in critical condition were taken to SMS Hospital.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the death and directed officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar visited Jaipuria Hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured.
