Sports Personality of the Year 2025 nominees: Hampton, Kelly, Kildunne, Littler, McIlroy, Norris

The shortlist of six contestants for the 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award has been announced.

The nominees include English footballers Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly, rugby player Ellie Kildunne, darts player Luke Littler, golfer Rory McIlroy and Formula 1 driver Lando Norris.

Voting will take place during the program on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Thursday, December 18.

Hosted by Gabby Logan, Alex Scott and Clare Balding and broadcast live from MediaCityUK in Salford, the program will celebrate 12 months of incredible sporting action.

BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski said: “This has been a breathtaking year for sport, driven by athletes whose performances have entered the history books.

“Each one delivered moments of pure awesomeness that defined 2025.

“It’s been incredible to watch and I can’t wait to honor their achievements and see who the country chooses as BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025.”

The public will be able to vote online on the night for the main prize and full details will be announced during the show.

The Team of the Year award will also be determined by public voting and the contestants will be announced later in the month.

Other awards presented on the night included Young Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and the Helen Rollason Award.

The World Sports Star award, which is open for voting, will also be presented.
