Spring rolls recalled from major supermarket over food poisoning fears

A major supermarket has issued a ‘do not eat’ warning on one of its food products amid concerns it could cause food poisoning.
Asda was forced to recall the brand ’10 Mini Duck Spring Rolls with Hoisin Dip’ (220g) as a precaution because the ‘Use By’ date was incorrect on the product.
The ‘Use By’ date was supposed to read 29 November, but was mistakenly a month behind, stating 29 December instead.
The Food Standards Association (FSA) ruled the product “unsafe to consume” after proper use by 29 November 2025.
The supermarket had advised anyone who purchased used food before December 29 to bring it to their nearest store and receive a full refund.
Asda said customers do not need to bring a receipt and other date codes are unaffected.
The supermarket said it was “very sorry for any inconvenience caused” and advised customers to call its customer care number (0800 952 0101) for more information.
Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in retail stores that sell the product to inform customers why the product is being recalled and what to do if they purchase the product.
‘Best Before’ refers to the safety of the food and is different from ‘Best Before’ which relates to the quality of the food.
The FSA stated on its website that “the Best Before Date is the most important date to remember” and advised: “Do not eat, cook or freeze food after the best before date. Also remember, you cannot smell the bacteria that make you sick.”
They explained: “You can eat food up to midnight on the expiration date shown on the product, but you cannot eat it later unless the food has been cooked and frozen. You will see expiration dates on foods that go out quickly, such as meat products or prepared salads.”
Food can be cooked until midnight of the expiration date stated on the product, then cooled and stored in the refrigerator. This is because cooking kills pathogens in the food and gives you a little more time to consume it.
