According to media person and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Professor Rima Dada, regular yoga practice can address physical and mental health concerns.
To talk Hindu Ahead of International Yoga Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Dr. Dada pointed out that the elderly population has increased significantly around the world and healthy aging has become an important public health priority.
“As advances in healthcare increase life expectancy, many people spend their later years struggling with lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.”
“Yoga is more than a set of physical exercises. It is a complete lifestyle that encourages healthy habits and mental discipline. Research studies have shown that consistent practice can reduce biological markers of aging, improve cellular health and improve overall quality of life,” he said.
For all ages
Recommending people of all ages, especially the elderly, to include yoga in their daily routines, the doctor said that regular practice of yoga postures improves flexibility, balance and neuromuscular coordination, while meditation helps reduce stress and oxidative damage.
Dr. Rima also stated that regular yoga practice can play a vital role in treating Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovary Syndrome (PMOS) by improving hormonal balance, regulating menstrual cycles, promoting healthy weight management and reproductive health.
The theme of the 12th International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Healthy Aging”.
