McDonald’s It is expected to report fourth-quarter earnings after the bell on Wednesday.
Here’s what Wall Street analysts surveyed by LSEG expect the company to report:
- Earnings per share: $3.05 expected
- R.evening: $6.84 billion is expected
The fast food giant, often seen as a bellwether of consumer spending, has been warning for more than a year that low-income consumers are spending less. In response, McDonald’s has embraced discounted offers, from introducing a value menu to reintroducing Extra Value combo meals.
One of the bright spots for McDonald’s and the broader fast-food segment has been higher-income customers who are turning away from fast-casual restaurant options. Buzzy promotions attracted the attention of these consumers and also increased the chain’s sales; the fourth quarter featured the return of Monopoly, as well as a Grinch dinner timed for the holiday season.
According to StreetAccount estimates, analysts predict McDonald’s same-store sales will increase 3.9%, driven by a 5.4% increase in the United States.
Despite its sales rebound, McDonald’s shares rose only about 4% last year; This has been undermined by broader industry-wide consumer concerns and the rise of GLP-1 drugs. The S&P 500 is up more than 14% over the same period.
