St George Illawarra Dragons to sign South Sydney star Keaon Koloamatangi for NRL 2027

Unless South Sydney change their mind, linking up with the Dragons in 2027 would be a significant step up given the difficulties the club has had in the player market in recent years.

Like most clubs struggling at the wrong end of the table, St George Illawarra have been linked with a host of stars in recent years; Flanagan has been open about the Dragons’ desire to find a key playmaker and center forward.

Cronulla utility player Daniel Atkinson is scheduled to play in the halves next season, while Josh Kerr will also return to the club in 2026.

Skippers Clint Gutherson and Damien Cook, as well as the Cowboys’ signings of Valentine Holmes and Luciano Leilua, have been the most notable signings of his tenure, but Koloamatangi is a cut above that cohort.

South Sydney’s bid to retain Koloamatangi had to take into account the fact that Latrell Mitchell, Jai Arrow, Jack Wighton and Campbell Graham are out of contract at the end of 2027 and are essentially free agents by this time next year; David Fifita also signed a two-year deal worth approximately $500,000 per season.
