St. Helena Island bar shooting leaves 4 dead, 20 hurt in South Carolina

According to law enforcement officials, early Sunday in St. At least four people were killed and 20 others were injured when gunfire broke out during a crowded gathering at a bar on St. Helena Island.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were searching for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He said he responded to reports of a shooting around 1 a.m. at Willie’s Bar and Grill on Drive.
When deputies arrived, they encountered a large crowd of people, many with gunshot wounds.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation revealed that hundreds of people were at the bar when the gunfire erupted, and that victims and witnesses sought safety at nearby businesses and homes.

The sheriff’s office said Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services transported several victims to nearby hospitals, while others continued to arrive at their own expense for treatment of those injured during the shooting.
Police said a total of 20 people were injured in the attack. While 4 people whose condition was critical were taken to the hospital, the other 4 people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officials have not yet announced the names of those who died in the attack.
The circumstances leading to the conflict and the people involved are under investigation.

“This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts are with all the victims and their loved ones.”
